Is Your Internet Ready for Streaming?
A reliable internet connection is the foundation of a successful live sports streaming experience. Before setting up your devices, it's important to understand whether your network can support streaming during your busiest business hours.
This article explains how to estimate your bandwidth needs, identify factors that affect available bandwidth, and test your internet performance before game day.
Why Internet Performance Matters
Live sports streaming depends on a fast and reliable internet connection. If your network doesn't have enough available bandwidth, you may experience buffering, lower video quality, or interrupted streams.
Determine Your Bandwidth Needs
Plan for at least 10 Mbps of available bandwidth for each streaming device.
For example, if you stream four devices at the same time, plan for at least 40 Mbps of available bandwidth dedicated to streaming. Keep in mind that other systems on your network, such as POS systems, guest WiFi, etc., also require bandwidth, so plan for additional capacity beyond your streaming needs.
Consider Your Busiest Business Hours
Your available bandwidth can change throughout the day as more people and devices use your network.
Guest WiFi, POS systems, security cameras, and other connected devices all compete for your available bandwidth. During your busiest business hours, less bandwidth may be available for streaming.
When evaluating your network, test it during your busiest business hours. This provides the most accurate picture of your network's ability to support streaming when demand is highest.
Test Your Internet Performance
Running a speed test is the easiest way to understand whether your internet connection can support streaming.
Use the EverPass Manager to run a speed test and compare your results to your estimated bandwidth needs.
